How Do You Unlock the True Expressive Power of Blues Guitar?
Are you feeling stuck in repetitive patterns or struggling to develop your unique voice on guitar?
Do you want to break free from basic blues licks and build solos that captivate your audience?
Robben Ford’s new book, Blues Guitar Phrasing Mastery is your guide to mastering blues expression, integrating jazz and fusion influences, and discovering a new level of control over your tone and phrasing.
Let one of the most respected guitarists in blues and jazz take you beyond traditional blues phrasing and show you how to craft solos with depth, colour, and emotional impact. This book dives into the techniques Ford is known for, from sophisticated modal improvisation to complex rhythms and expressive phrasing – all designed to elevate your blues playing to new heights.
Discover Advanced Blues Soloing Techniques with Robben Ford’s Unique Approach
In Blues Guitar Phrasing Mastery, you’ll learn the secrets to blending traditional blues with jazz sophistication through step-by-step lessons. Each chapter explores a different style – from shuffles and funky vamps to fusion and slow blues – giving you a versatile toolkit to solo confidently in any blues context.
What You’ll Learn:
- Create expressive, conversational solos by mastering call-and-response phrasing, controlled bends, vibrato, and dynamics to make your guitar “speak"
- Explore advanced modal improvisation to bring unique colors to your blues solos, blending the minor pentatonic with jazz-inspired tones for a fresh tonal palette
- Adapt your phrasing to unique time signatures like 7/4, using extended lines and rhythmic “breathing”
- Achieve emotional impact in slow blues with vocal-inspired bends, subtle vibrato, and layered dynamics
- Incorporate fusion-inspired elements like chromatic passing tones, suspended chord arpeggios, and modal shifts
- Master long-line phrasing techniques to build solos that flow naturally across the fretboard and tell a story
- Refine your tone and articulation with nuanced pick attack, touch sensitivity, and dynamic control
Unlock Your Creative Potential in Blues Guitar
From Ford’s trademark fusion elements to emotive slow blues, each lesson helps you move beyond scales and licks to create flowing, narrative solos. With downloadable audio examples to support every exercise, you’ll master timing, tone, and articulation for a complete soloing transformation.
Learning outcomes:
- Develop a distinct musical voice: Learn to craft solos that are unique and expressive, moving beyond simple licks to play with intention and emotional depth
- Break free from repetitive patterns: Instead of relying on the same licks, you’ll master long-line phrasing techniques that allow you to build story-like solos
- Expand your rhythmic precision: With practice in unique time signatures like 7/4 and complex syncopated grooves, you’ll develop stronger timing and rhythmic creativity
- Unlock the fretboard with ease: By integrating modal shifts you’ll become comfortable at navigating the entire fretboard, freeing you to explore new ideas
- Master expressive articulation: Gain control over bends, slides, and vibrato, adding emotional weight to each note and vocal phrase
- Improvise with jazz-infused sophistication: Add jazz colors to your blues solos with fusion-inspired ideas to enhance your musicality
- Play with purposeful timing and space: You’ll learn to use pauses, rhythmic breathing, and dynamics to give your solos a conversational quality
There’s never been a more practical and inspiring way to master blues guitar.
