Laid in is slip of paper with the following "Mrs. E. W. Blatchford, | Wood's Hole, } Massachusetts, | U.S.A." beside a round rubber stap that has some Chinese characters and the word Foochow with the date of 19 Aug 04. Green cloth with red letters and double line on the front cover and gilt letters on the spine. Rear cover decorated with double blind lines. Some wear to extremities with a couple of corners just barely rubbed through, cloth clean, gilt bright, some minor silverfish grazing to covers, else very good to near fine with no internal markings. No dust jacket. A standard work on understanding music. William Smythe Babcock Mathews was an American music critic and teacher.
