An absolutely indispensable reference work for students of Pelican Press books, typography, type-founders, book illustration, and technical terms thereabout. Added association value in that someone has laid in a foxed, mildly crimped copy of a one-page "Stationers' Company and Printing Industry Technical Board" set of six (6) questions for examination, held at Stationers' Hall, Tuesday, 3rd May, 1927. Woe to he or she who failed to study hard, his or her craft in type-setting. The title (page) continues: "Type specimens grouped, displayed and numbered. The written word and the printed word [written allegedly by the type founder Stanley Morison but not stated so]. Concerning printers' flowers. The pioneer work of the Pelican Press. The points of a well made book. A glossary of printers' terms. Borders and initials. Second impression to which has been added examples of new faces." This is a copy of the more scarce Second impression that followed publication in 1923 of the First Edition (500 copies of which were ever printed, on japon vellum). Bound in a light green buckram cloth that has sunned along edges and sunned to tan on spine, and with printed paper label to spine, barely abraded. A sturdy, attractive, tightly bound, internally bright hardcover copy, with unbruised tips, neat and tidy paste-downs but for some light foxing thereto; not ex-library, with neither highlighting nor underlining. Distinct forward cock to spine. Some sunning to and foxing of, light soiling to, some of the tipped-in examples of type-faces, else clean and unmarked. This second printing in 1927 was printed on Basingwerk Parchment with some additional typefaces. [2], 3-96 pp. The colophon notes that this second impression was written "mostly" by "me" (Frances Meynell).Member, I.O.B.A., C.B.A., and adherent to the highest ethical standards. Additional postage may be required for oversize or especially heavy volumes, and for sets. Seller Inventory # 347380
