Item description from seller

Typescript. Quarto. [11]pp. Fine. An interview of Sir John Dankworth by longtime London *Sunday Times* music critic Derek Jewell. The typescript are accompanied by a press release fromtThe London Symphony Orchestra announcing that Dankworth will direct the summer Pops program at the Barbican Centre, along with a program, and schedule of events for August 1985. The interview, dated in ink "7/8/85," touches briefly on Dankworth's wife Dame Cleo Laine and her new musical *Drood* (then in preview) for which she received a Tony Award nomination, but is largely about his approach to directing the 1985 summer Pops season. He discusses how his experiences performing with various American Pops programs has influenced him and explains the thinking that went into his selection of programs and players, including George Shearing. This is one of the last article Jewell wrote; he died on November 21, 1985.
