A letter and clean, crisp autograph by marketing pioneer and famous Philadelphia department store founder and owner, John Wanamaker (1858 - 1922), a merchandising genius and proponent of the power of advertising, who employed the first full-time ad copywriter, and whose other credits include the creation of the price tag and the money-back guarantee. Wanamaker would later go on to be appointed the 35th Postmaster General of the United States by President Benjamin Harrison, where he issued the first commemorative stamp and introduced many efficiencies in a tenure otherwise marked by controversy. Reading in part: "Your letter of the 24th finds me enclosing the sheets of what purports to be an account book of one of my own name, whose writing I think I never saw and am not able to identify it is of no value except that it was sent by some one who feels kindly to me.
