American composer, Hamilton Forrest (1901 - 1963), is best known for his settings of 33 Kentucky mountain melodies and Negro folk songs which were championed by Marian Anderson. Chiefly among them was He's Got the Whole World in His Hands, which was published in 1951 and was dedicated to Marian, who often concluded her recitals with the spiritual, inviting the audience to join in with her.
