("Ben Field") on Out West Magazine letterhead July 14, 1932. 1 page. Poet Ben Field writes from Santa Monica, California to Mrs. C. B. McAllister Editor of the Lantern in Brooklyn New York inquiring about submitting his poems and those of his wife Rowena Field for a "Western" edition of the Lantern. 11 3/4" x 8 1/2". Very good. McAllister has penned her seven line holograph response at the bottom of the letter. Together with an unsigned typed draft of Field's July 26, 1932 response, written on the verso of an "Out West" envelope. Lummis (1859-1928), born March 1, 1859, Lynn, Massachusetts; died November 24, 1928, explorer, researcher and author; noted for his on-foot trek from Cincinnati to Los Angeles in 1884; City Editor of the Los Angeles Times (1885-87), with LA Public Library (1905-10); founder of Out West magazine, Landmarks Club and Southwest Museum (1906-07).
