[brown cloth clamshell box has some minor scuffing to the underside; mounted plates are in Fine condition]. (B&W photographs) SIGNED by the subject, master printer Ward Ritchie, on the title page and also on Plate 12, latterly with an inscription "For old friends from the 1930s -- the Petits"; additionally SIGNED by Lawrence Clark Powell on the limitation page. "Designed, printed and produced by D'Ambrosio, using hand set Della Robbia type and a Vandercook No. 4 proof press . . . under the direction of Norman E. Tanis, Director of Libraries, California State University, Northridge." Contents: ii [title page]; iii-v (Foreword by Lawrence Clark Powell); followed by Plates 1 (WR at work, 1984), 2 ("The 'burden' of printing by hand on an antique Albion press"), 3 ("Setting the frisket"), 4 ("The man and his press"), 5 ("Anticipation"), 7 (Grant Dahlstrom, Jake Zeitlin, WR, and LCP -- the Zamorano 'Compadres' -- at the Clark Library, 1980), 9 (Irving Block, Norman Tanis and WR at an exhibition of WR's books at the Oviatt Library, 1985), 10 ("A good sport"; WR with a tennis racket), 11 ("Gosh! Isn't this fun?"), 12 ("Ward Ritchie: A man for past, present, and future centuries," 1986). Each of the photographic plates is a 4x6 black-and-white print mounted on 2-ply archival board; the text is printed on the same type of boards. [NOTE that Plates 6 and 8 are not present.] The plates are followed by two boards containing "About the Photographer," plus the limitation page stating this to be No. 24 of sixty-five copies; these latter three boards all un-numbered. NOTE also that two of the plates have the previous owner's address label on the verso. NOTE also that there may be another missing board; the order was jumbled when I acquired this, and I'm not certain if the limitation page belongs at the end (where I've placed it) or at the beginning. (There is no page numbered "i", which makes me slightly suspicious.) At any rate, the set IS incomplete, with only 10 of the original 12 plates present, and is commensurately bargain-priced. Welcome to ReadInk (rhymes with "Dead Ink"), now in our 29th year of putting interesting books into the hands of interested people. **** Although I occasionally lapse into the "royal we" voice, ReadInk is just me, from one end of the pipeline to the other: buying, cataloging, customer service, shipping, you name it. Nothing here is automated, and every order or inquiry gets my prompt, personal attention. **** In describing a book's physical condition, I employ standard book-grading terminology (Good/Very Good/Fine, with various in-between gradations as appropriate) and do my best to avoid both excessive jargon and overly-finicky detail. My goal is always to present a faithful impression of a book's condition and appearance; significant flaws are individually noted, or if too numerous are succinctly summarized. **** Books are more than just physical objects, however: they are also intellectual/information vessels, and in almost every case I also include some information about a book's content in my listing, even if it's only a carefully chosen quotation from the dust jacket copy. (This may sound like a small thing, but take a look sometime and you'll see how amazingly few sellers bother with this, especially in the case of older fiction, which is one of my specialties.) **** I take great care (and pride) in my packaging of books for shipment; I figure it's my responsibility to ensure that each book I send out will withstand the rigors of the U.S. Postal System, and will reach its new owner in the same condition as advertised. Right of withdrawal
If you are a consumer you can withdraw from the contract in accordance with the following. Consumer means any natural person who is acting for purposes which are outside his trade, business, craft or profession.
Information regarding the right of withdrawal
Statutory right to withdraw
You have the right to withdraw from this contract within 14 days without giving any reason.
The withdrawal period will expire after 14 days from the day on which you acquire, or a third party other than the carrier and indicated by you acquires, physical possession of the last good or the last lot or piece.
To exercise the right of withdrawal, electronically fill in and submit a clear statement on our website, under "My Purchases" in "My Account". We will communicate to you an acknowledgement of receipt of such a withdrawal on a durable medium (e.g. by e-mail) without delay.
To meet the withdrawal deadline, it is sufficient for you to send your communication concerning your exercise of the right of withdrawal before the withdrawal period has expired.
Effects of withdrawal
If you withdraw from this contract, we will reimburse to you all payments received from you, including the costs of delivery (except for the supplementary costs arising if you chose a type of delivery other than the least expensive type of standard delivery offered by us).
We may make a deduction from the reimbursement for loss in value of any goods supplied, if the loss is the result of unnecessary handling by you.
We will make the reimbursement without undue delay, and not later than 14 days after the day on which we are informed about your decision to withdraw from this contract.
We will make the reimbursement using the same means of payment as you used for the initial transaction, unless you have expressly agreed otherwise; in any event, you will not incur any fees as a result of such reimbursement.
We may withhold reimbursement until we have received the goods back, or you have supplied evidence of having sent back the goods, whichever is the earliest.
You shall send back the goods or hand them over to ReadInk, ABAA/IOBA, Los Angeles, California, U.S.A., +1 (310) 991-3391, without undue delay and in any event not later than 14 days from the day on which you communicate your withdrawal from this contract to us. The deadline is met if you send back the goods before the period of 14 days has expired. You will have to bear the direct cost of returning the goods. You are only liable for any diminished value of the goods resulting from the handling other than what is necessary to establish the nature, characteristics and functioning of the goods.
Exceptions to the right of withdrawal
The right of withdrawal does not apply to:
- The delivery of newspapers, journals or magazines with the exception of subscription contracts; and
- The supply of digital content which is not supplied on a tangible medium (e.g. on a CD or DVD) if you accepted when you placed your order that we could start to deliver it, and that you could not withdraw once delivery had started.
Shipping terms
We offer free Media Mail shipping for all domestic (U.S.) orders, and endeavor to keep our Priority Mail rates as reasonable as possible. International shipping in most instances will be via USPS First Class International mail, at the posted rates. Only on rare occasions do we request additional shipping charges, when warranted by the weight or value of the book. Our first priority always is TOP-QUALITY PACKAGING, for MAXIMUM PROTECTION of your book, and we will never compromise on this point.
