Half page and one page respectively. 1 vols. 4to. Writing to Hartley regarding writing and the influence of high school in making a writer. He responds "I think one can only write and find out of one's self whether one if a writer or not." Telling of the "period of drought" in his writing, noting that "If I knew what made a writer I would not have got into such a fix." The second letter says "Writing is something that basically you have to learn for yourself. I still write laboriously, much more so than when I was younger, as I can never go on to the next page until the last one seems right. Of course, this saves some re-writing" He writes of a film in which he, Jessamyn West, Ross Macdonald, James Houston, Ernest J. Gaines and Catherine Bowen tried to describe what it is like to write and recommended that Hartley look at it. To Wesley Hartley, an educator and teacher. Folded, the first with original typed envelope Half page and one page respectively. 1 vols. 4to.
