First book: In Hebrew and some Aramaic. Complete. 46 leaves. Leaves' numbering is faulty. (2), 22, 21-38, 2 unnumbered leaves, leaf number 39, which has the number Kaf (20 on its verso. Followed by leaf number 42. 210 x 73 mm. This is the second edition of Raziel HaMal'akh (Raziel ha-Malakh). The first edition was published 92 years earlier in 1701 c.e. in Amsterdam. In the 90 years following this second edition, more than 30 editions were printed in various cities throughout Russia-Poland. All those editions are based on this second edition, published in Grodno (Horadna), which is described on the title page, in Hebrew, as ?Horadna haBira? (=Grodno the capital.) This is a kabbalistic work, with many kabbalistic illustrations, amulets etc. According to the title page, possession of this book protects one's home from fire and serves as a charm to bring success, blessings and successful childbirth and progeny. The second book here is: sefer SAFA BRURA Hebraische Grammatik mit vier sprachen Lateinischen, Italienischen, Franzosichen und Deutschen [all transcribed into the Hebrew alphabet] by Wolf ben Gershon HaLevi also known as Wolf Letteris. Complete. 32 unnumbered leaves. Last four leaves had damage to top foredge with some loss of some text. Repaired by master paper restorer, who also repaired the same area in the rear board. WorldCat: Libraries worldwide that own item: 2. Hebrew inscriptions on front end paper include: "This book belongs to . . . Meshulam Zalman son of Meir Segal" Handwritten Russian inscription on rear free end paper, which translates into English as: This book belongs to Zundel son of David Ule[m [OR:] p[?] [rest is cut off.] "son of David" appears as the patronym. Unfortunately the full last name is missing. The binding dates back to c.1800 c.e. The stamped seal, in Russian, see image _3 here, is as follows: C????? ????? ???? [similar to the decree of rights, Ukaz is also a Royal Decree, not just in old Russia but in Turkey etc.] There is also something after the colon that I can't read. ?????? ????? ???? [=Grodno Legal Department] 27 ?????? 1840 (?) ?. ?i? ????? [=27 November 1840(?) Year. This book] ???? ???????????? ? ????????? [= by me inspected and designated (verified)] ???? ???????? 1837 (?) ?. [=by my signature 1837 (?) Year.] The last line is difficult to make out, but it might be: ?????????i? ?????? [= Grodno rabbi] The signature is hard to decipher.
