Text in 2 cols. Orig. brown wavy-grained cloth; sl. rubbed & unevenly faded. Library label of Newtown School on leading pastedown, ownership inscription of J.I. Harvey, Waterford on leading f.e.p. First published New York, 1840. Dana left Harvard University because of failing sight and worked as a deckhand on The Pilgrim, sailing from Boston around Cape Horn to California in 1834-36.
