8vo. Hardcover. Pp. 306. Second Edition. In very good condition; red cloth binding, professionally rebacked. With a beautiful, bright gilt illustration on the cover, and gilt title on the spine. Light shelf-wear such as minor wear along the edges and light bumping at the corners. Minor scuffs and marking to the cover, including a small black ink stain on the rear board and small scratches on the spine. Pages themselves are clean and unmarked with light foxing. A small tear in the corner of the plate on p. 190, not obstructing the image itself. Pp. 190 - 191 has some noticeable brown stains on them, though mostly on the edges so text still very readable. Complete with all photographic plates. Agnes Herbert was a British writer and big game hunter. The daughter of James Bateman Thorpe, she was born Agnes Elsie Diana Thorpe on the Isle of Man and grew up there. In 1906, she left on a hunting trip to Somaliland. She had one daughter, the novelist Bradda Field. She first married a Mr. Herbert and became a widow some time later. In 1913, she married Archibald Thomas Stewart, a commander in the Royal Navy. Herbert was a member of the Society of Women Journalists, also serving as its vice-chair and later vice-president. She was editor of the Writers' & Artists' Yearbook from 1922 to 1929. In 1931, Herbert was named an officer of the Order of the British Empire. Seller Inventory # 036494
