The following pages represent an attempt to inter pret the life of a famous Englishman, and a great Christian leader. When originally composed there was no intention of giving them wider publicity. They were written for delivery as lectures, and retain their original form with very few alterations. The question of time made considerable abbreviation necessary when they were actually delivered, but they are now issued in their complete form with the addition of some appendices and a few explanatory notes.
