Public health at work in early 20th century New Hampshire. This official biennial report surveys the State Board of Health’s activities for 1913–1914, with a strong emphasis on water safety, food and drug testing, bacteriological work, and the inspection of dairies and vendors. It also describes campaigns to educate the public about tuberculosis and the enforcement of health laws.
The pages outline how the board examined public and private water supplies, tracked changes in water quality, and reported on filtering and treatment practices. It also highlights the labor of the State Laboratory of Hygiene, its role in diagnosing diseases, and the impact of field inspectors who improved sanitary conditions through education and targeted remedies.
- Details on water-supply testing, the scope of analyses, and measures to protect drinking water.
- Descriptions of dairy, grocery, and restaurant inspections aimed at reducing public health risks.
- Statistics on bacteriological examinations and the laboratory’s work on milk, water, and disease detection.
- Discussion of tuberculosis education, reporting laws, and legislative actions affecting public health.
Ideal for readers of public health history, state-level health administration, and early 20th‑century scientific reporting.
