Paperback. Experience the luminous and turbulent landscapes of J. M. W. Turner (17751851), the visionary British painter whose extraordinary command of light, weather, and atmosphere transformed landscape painting. This pocket guide traces Turners career from precise early watercolors and topographical views to the dazzling seascapes, storms, fires, and near-abstract visions of his later years. Learn what to look for in his swirling compositions, radiant color, dramatic contrasts, and ability to convey the force of nature and the instability of the modern world. Biographical insights, memorable anecdotes, a personal portrait, and carefully selected quotations reveal his ambition, working habits, and complex public image. A focused examination of one celebrated masterpiece explores the innovation beneath its apparent spontaneity. Featuring more than 65 full-color reproductions, this compact guide introduces an artist whose daring experiments helped prepare the way for Impressionism and modern abstraction. Shipping may be from our Sydney, NSW warehouse or from our UK or US warehouse, depending on stock availability.…

About the Author
J. M. W. Turner was a British painter whose visionary landscapes transformed the representation of light, atmosphere, weather, and the natural world. His increasingly daring use of color and dissolving forms pushed landscape painting far beyond conventional topographical description. His work became an important precedent for Impressionism and abstraction and established landscape as a vehicle for profound emotional and visual experimentation.
