Turners of Augusta is a rare, historically significant book written by Tom Turner and published in 1956 by Paterson Brokensha in Perth, Western Australia. The book provides a richly detailed, comprehensive history and genealogy of the Turner family, who were among the prominent British pioneer settlers of Augusta, Western Australia. Overview of the Narrative: The Migration: The book charts the epic journey of James Woodward Turner, a London master builder who emigrated aboard the ship Warrior in 1829.The Settlement: Finding that Swan River land grants were already claimed, the Turners joined the Bussell and Molloy families to establish Augusta in May 1830.Colonial Resilience: It traces the family's extensive 30,000-acre land grants, their daily hardships, and their adaptation to a remote, isolated bush environment. Historical Treasures Included: Written by a direct descendant, the book serves as a vital compilation of archival material, featuring: Family Artwork: It reproduces early colonial water colours and drawings by James's eldest son, Thomas Turner, an accomplished early painter, surveyor, and architect. Primary Documents: Extracts from James Woodward Turner?s personal diaries and his official correspondence with figures like Captain John Molloy and John Septimus Roe. Genealogical Data: Detailed family trees, portrait photographs, and biographical profiles of later generations.
