Map. Engraving with hand color outline. Sheet measures 13 3/8" x 16". This map shows the Southern part of Greece as well as the island of Candia, now known as Crete. The map shows cities, towns, and rivers, and shows relief by hachure. An illustration of the Acropolis of Athens is shown at bottom left. The map is in very good condition; some light toning to margins. The Society for the Diffusion of Useful Knowledge was formed in 1826 and published low cost maps with the goal of reaching a large market, while still maintaining high quality and precision.
