A neutral introduction to virtue ethics--the oldest ethical approach in philosophy history dating back to Aristotle and Plato, but lost importance since the Enlightenment. At the end of the 20th century, virtue ethics experienced a renaissance and nowadays, in addition to consequentialism and deontology, is considered one of the three great paradigms of normative ethics. The role of virtue in the sense of excellence of character and mind can be justified from various (meta-)ethical positions. The present introduction introduces within the framework of a new systematics to the variety of virtue ethical approaches - understandable, clear and with a focus on modern approaches.
