What makes a bank truly trustworthy in an age of complex data, cloud platforms, outsourced services and artificial intelligence?
The Trustworthy Bank presents a practical framework for building financial institutions that can modernise rapidly without losing control of their data, decisions or critical operations.
Drawing on international financial-services transformation experience, Amresh Varshney connects disciplines that are often managed separately: data quality, risk-data aggregation, technology migration, operational resilience, quality engineering, third-party oversight and responsible AI. The book shows how failures can travel across these boundaries—and how integrated assurance can prevent them from becoming customer, regulatory or financial harm.
At the centre of the book is the original TRUST framework:
• Trace the service, data and decision chain
• Reconcile every material boundary
• Understand meaning, use and materiality
• Safeguard change, security and suppliers
• Test continuously and communicate the truth through evidence
Readers will learn how to:
• Build financial-data platforms with embedded controls
• Govern complex banking migrations and release decisions
• Strengthen reconciliation, lineage and data-quality assurance
• Test operational resilience through severe but plausible scenarios
• Govern generative and agentic AI across data, models, tools and human decisions
• Manage provider concentration, model risk, privacy and customer fairness
• Produce decision-grade evidence for executives, risk teams and auditors
The book also includes a 50-question TRUST diagnostic, critical-data control catalogue, migration and cutover checklist, AI risk assessment, resilience scenario pack, evidence-pack template and global regulatory crosswalk.
The Trustworthy Bank is written for banking and FinTech executives, transformation leaders, data professionals, architects, engineers, quality and testing specialists, risk managers, compliance teams, model validators and internal auditors.
Trust is not created by a dashboard turning green. It is an engineered property of architecture, data, operating behaviour and evidence.
