Item description from seller
Contents: Preface. 1. Forestry over the years from sustained yield to sustainable management. 2. Traditional systems. 3. New imperatives. 4. New systems (the search). References. Annexure I Glossary. Annexure II Abbreviations used. From the preface: "Forest management is multi- dimensional. The list of dimensions begins with 'ecological', and, perhaps, ends with 'political'. If timber production was the primary objective in forest management in nineteen- forties, biodiversity conservation is the main concern in nineteen- nineties. Unfortunately, despite regular debate, the silvicultural systems have not changed with the changing objectives. "This work is an attempt to initiate search for the new systems. The author's experience is limited to tropics, so are the discussions in this work." No. 29920 137 pp.…
