4 1/4 in. x 6 3/8 in., typed poem on a sheet of laid paper. Shows a central, horizontal fold. Enclosed in an envelope with a calligraphic notation: Paul Lemperly, Esq. Present. This envelope shows a tear to the back flap. Another "Triolet" by F. A. Hilliard was published in "Vanities in Verse", Marion Press, 1897, which Paul Lemperly (1858-1939) helped publish. This typed poem appears to be a gift to him, though not published in "Vanities". Both men were book collectors, and early, founding members of the Rowfant Club in Cleveland, Ohio. Contents: "Triolet My lips answered "No"/ while my heart answered "Yes"/ He startled me so/ My lips answered "No"-/ How stupid to go/ And never to guess,/My LIPS answered "No"/ While my HEART answered "Yes".
