Item description from seller

Hartford, Fond Du Lac, Cleveland: Connecticut Publishing Company, 1881. Edith O'Gorman (1842-1929) became famous as "the Escaped Nun," describing the alleged cruelty and horrors of convent life, where she had been the subject of unwanted attentions by a priest. She is regarded today as a proto-Feminist, a strong voice against sexual harrassment. This is a Very Good copy of a Later Printing of the First American Edition (she first wrote of her flight in 1871). Dark brown cloth binding with gilt lettering on the spine. Clean text; 264 pages, with a publisher's Appendix and five pages of publisher's adverts. Rubbed at the margins but very presentable and uncommon. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. Later Printing. Hard Cover. Very Good/No Jacket. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
