This book is a profound exploration of the unique and intricate tri-justice system practiced in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM), offering readers an insightful perspective on how traditional, civil, and religious justice systems coexist and function at the grassroots level.
Mansoor Limba brings a wealth of expertise and experience to this work. As a university professor teaching subjects related to conflict resolution, legal pluralism, and Shari‘ah, Limba is deeply immersed in the academic and practical aspects of these topics. He is also an alumnus of Clingendael (Netherlands Institute of International Relations), where he trained on Negotiation and Mediation in Conflict Resolution, and a Shari‘ah Counselor-at-Law (SCL). With his rich background, Limba offers a nuanced analysis of how different justice systems—Islamic, tribal, and civil—work together to resolve disputes in the BARMM barangays.
In this book, Limba takes readers on a personal journey through 15 barangays, each with its own unique culture and legal traditions. His firsthand accounts provide not only scholarly analysis but also an intimate look into the lives of the Moro, Non-Moro Indigenous Peoples (NMIPs), and Christian settlers who make up the tri-people composition of the region.
Through the lens of legal pluralism, Limba uncovers how these communities balance Islamic law, traditional customs, and the national justice system to create a unique form of governance centered on peace, reconciliation, and social harmony.
More than just a study of legal frameworks, this book captures the voices, wisdom, and stories of the barangay leaders, elders, and Lupong Tagapamayapa members who work tirelessly to uphold justice.
Limba’s personal reflections on the tri-justice system reveal the challenges and successes of integrating diverse legal traditions, while also showcasing the resilience and adaptability of the people in the Bangsamoro in navigating this complex system.
We are also pleased to publish The Tri-Justice System in Action in celebration of the first anniversary of the passage of the Bangsamoro Local Governance Code (BLGC) by the Bangsamoro Parliament on September 28, 2023, and its approval on the same day by the Interim Chief Minister Ahod B. Ebrahim.
This book serves as a timely contribution to the region’s evolving governance framework, showcasing how local justice systems work to maintain peace, social order, and resilience across diverse communities in the BARMM.
The Tri-Justice System in Action is an essential resource for anyone interested in legal pluralism, conflict resolution, and peacebuilding. It offers valuable insights into the justice system of the BARMM and provides a model for how multiple legal systems can coexist to maintain social harmony.
Limba’s background as a professor, Shari‘ah counselor, and expert in conflict mediation enriches this work, giving readers a deep understanding of how negotiation and mediation are applied to real-world conflicts.
At ElziStyle Bookshop, we believe in sharing stories that matter—stories that highlight diversity, resilience, and the pursuit of justice.
We are proud to bring this work to readers across the world and invite you to join Mansoor Limba on his personal journey through the tri-justice system of BARMM.
