Bound in the publisher's original green pictorial cloth. Complete in two volumes. Written by British botanist William Jackson Bean, who was the curator of Kew Gardens from 1922 to 1929, being responsible for the cultivation of certain trees and plants which still grow there today. The volume alphabetically describe the trees and shrubs of the British Isles and is an attempt to bring together brief descriptions of all the species and more important varieties of hardy wood plants established in cultivation, with notes on their distinctive characters, garden value and culture. With thirty-six plates in the first volume which covers from A-K, and twenty-eight plates in the second volume which covers L-Z. Collated, complete. In the publisher's original green pictorial cloth binding. Externally, excellent, with light bumping to the extremities and to the head and tail of the spine. A little rubbing to the front joint of volume I. Internally, firmly bound. Pages bright and clean. Very Good Indeed.
