In 1938, as the shadows of war gather over Europe, Colonel Harry Brigandshaw finds himself drawn back into a world of international intrigue. When his old German friend Klaus von Lieberman disappears—reportedly taken by the Nazi secret police—Harry risks everything to uncover the truth.
Flying a state-of-the-art Short Sunderland seaplane to Switzerland, Harry and his small crew land on Lake Constance hoping to contact Klaus's daughters. But even neutral Swiss shores aren't safe from watchful German eyes. As Harry navigates diplomatic tensions and uncovers the heartbreaking transformation of German youth under Hitler's influence, he witnesses firsthand how families are being torn apart by ideology.
What begins as a personal mission to help an old war enemy turned friend becomes a haunting glimpse into Nazi Germany's growing power. With Klaus's son Erwin already indoctrinated into the Hitler Youth and his daughters caught between loyalties, Harry must confront a painful truth: the world is changing irrevocably, and those who refuse to bend to the new order may be crushed beneath it.
A masterful tale, the sixth Brigandshaw saga, of friendship amid the gathering storm of World War II, this sweeping historical drama explores the human cost of nationalism gone wrong and the quiet heroism of those who stand against it.
