An early edition, probably seventh, of Oliver Goldsmith's popular poem, pondering on happiness and unhappiness. No edition is stated to the half-title, though it is likely to be the seventh edition, with a fourth edition published in 1765, and a ninth edition published in 1774. Half-title is present. Collated, complete. The catchword of page i is 'harvest'. ESTC citation number T146164. With an engraved title page. 'The Traveller' is a philosophical heroic verse poem, written in an Augustan style. In the poem, Goldsmith discusses the causes of happiness and unhappiness in nations. This was the work which first made Goldsmith's name, and is considered to be a classic of mid eighteenth century poetry. Written by Oliver Goldsmith, an Irish poet and novelist, who is best known for his works 'The Vicar of Wakefield' and 'The Deserted Village'. Disbound. Externally, the outer leaves are a little age-toned, with a very light marks and spots. Very faint evidence of a prior owner's ink inscription to the head of the front wrap. Small ink mark to the rear wrap. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very lightly age-toned and clean. Small puncture marks to the gutter of the first and last few pages. Very Good Indeed.
