About this Item
8vo. 1684-1685. Three volumes, bound in contemporary 3/4 morocco with marbled boards. Spine with six compartments, decorated with gold fleur-de-lis and red leather label lettered in gilt. All edges marbled. Vol 1 - [26], 363, [5], Vol II - [14], 341, [3], Vol III - [12], 387, [6]. Each volume with engraved half-title, though these are in fact full page. Volume I with engravings of Louis XIV and Mallet. Including the above mentioned plates the total number of engravings in this set is 417. An extremely rich archive of offensive and defensive strategies as they regard natural fortifications, Palaces, Cities and open warfare. The plates are extremely clean and bright and many show cityscapes of 17th century Europe from an attacking point of view. This is a lovely set, internally in completely original condition, now re-bound in a very attractive binding. NF. Seller Inventory # 009145
