Fine anni ’70, Sebastiano, il protagonista e narratore, viene arrestato durante un fatto minore di microterrorismo tipico di quegli anni. La sua condanna a sei anni di reclusione è la conclusione di un’attività politica che lui aveva iniziato nel ’68, nonostante che all’epoca non avesse neanche quindici anni di età.
Dopo circa quattro anni di detenzione però la sua carcerazione viene interrotta dal riconoscimento di un periodo di libertà condizionale, aprendogli improvvisamente le porte del carcere, cosa che però lo catapulta in un mondo che lui non riconosce più e che, a sua volta, non riconosce più lui. Deve rendersi conto che, anche se dalla galera ne aveva avuto il sentore, percependo il tradimento di Elisa, sua moglie, quella non sarebbe stata l’unica cosa che avrebbe trovato cambiata. Tutto intorno a lui non assomiglia più a quello che aveva lasciato alle sue spalle al momento della sua carcerazione perché ogni cosa che aveva costruito fino a quel momento era come sparita nel nulla.
Anche il confronto con la sua organizzazione politica non è più lo stesso e si trova come sfasato, perché il momento storico nel frattempo era mutato, le forze sociali cambiate, la visione politica diversa. E lui non capisce più e non viene più capito dai suoi stessi compagni, che lo considerano anche fuori di testa. È in questo scenario che Sebastiano cerca di sopravvivere, di restare a galla, di salvare il salvabile della sua esistenza, ma si trova a dovere fare i conti anche con l’estinzione delle utopie politiche e personali in cui aveva creduto, e che aveva anche teorizzato, a cui quel periodo storico stava presentando il conto con la realtà perdendo a una a una la loro fragile consistenza.
Ma qualche volta annaspando e qualche volta reagendo anche fuori dalle linee, lui testardamente cercherà di trovare di nuovo una strada, una nuova vita, che però non perda completamente il suo spirito, perché altrimenti non sarebbe più la sua. E il suo essere trascinato in questa nuova realtà senza più poterla controllare lo costringerà a navigare a vista cercando qualche porto sicuro anche nelle sue vecchie fiamme, quelle con cui aveva condiviso quella libertà di amare nella quale aveva creduto ciecamente. Ma in ogni momento si troverà a dovere fare necessariamente i conti con quel passato che continuamente gli riaffiorerà nella mente con ricordi di lotte politiche e di schegge di carcere, richiamati alla sua mente in veri e propri flashback.
Il suo narrare inizia quando lui si ritrova, dopo appena una decina di giorni dalla sua liberazione, solo, con i suoi ricordi e le sue delusioni, alla ricerca di una qualche forza che lo faccia reagire, superando quel passato da cui non riesce proprio a distaccarsi. E da dove inizia un percorso attraverso il quale, tra ricordi e realtà, i suoi amori, il suo impegno politico, tutta la sua stessa vita, vengono ripercorsi in un mix di rabbia e violenza, sesso e disperazione.
Senza neanche rendersi conto come quello che stava vivendo in realtà potesse rappresentare un vero e proprio viaggio in quel periodo storico della seconda metà degli anni Ottanta, nel quale distruggendo tutto si stava gettando le basi per una società futura così impreparata alla rivoluzione informatica e alla americanizzazione, da essere destinata a essere risucchiata di nuovo indietro nella storia, fino a configurarsi un nuovo medio evo.

Statutory right to withdraw

You have the right to withdraw from this contract within 14 days without giving any reason.

The withdrawal period will expire after 14 days from the day on which you acquire, or a third party other than the carrier and indicated by you acquires, physical possession of the last good or the last lot or piece.

To exercise the right of withdrawal, electronically fill in and submit a clear statement on our website, under "My Purchases" in "My Account". We will communicate to you an acknowledgement of receipt of such a withdrawal on a durable medium (e.g. by e-mail) without delay.

To meet the withdrawal deadline, it is sufficient for you to send your communication concerning your exercise of the right of withdrawal before the withdrawal period has expired.

Effects of withdrawal

If you withdraw from this contract, we will reimburse to you all payments received from you, including the costs of delivery (except for the supplementary costs arising if you chose a type of delivery other than the least expensive type of standard delivery offered by us).

We may make a deduction from the reimbursement for loss in value of any goods supplied, if the loss is the result of unnecessary handling by you.

We will make the reimbursement without undue delay, and not later than 14 days after the day on which we are informed about your decision to withdraw from this contract.

We will make the reimbursement using the same means of payment as you used for the initial transaction, unless you have expressly agreed otherwise; in any event, you will not incur any fees as a result of such reimbursement.

We may withhold reimbursement until we have received the goods back, or you have supplied evidence of having sent back the goods, whichever is the earliest.

You shall send back the goods or hand them over to GreatBookPricesUK, Castle Donington, Derby, United Kingdom, without undue delay and in any event not later than 14 days from the day on which you communicate your withdrawal from this contract to us. The deadline is met if you send back the goods before the period of 14 days has expired. You will have to bear the direct cost of returning the goods. You are only liable for any diminished value of the goods resulting from the handling other than what is necessary to establish the nature, characteristics and functioning of the goods.

Exceptions to the right of withdrawal
