- Book 1 of 2: Life Roadmaps from a Retired Psychologist
- Do you struggle with depression, grief, anxiety, and PTSD, which are the emotional aftermath of painful childhood experiences?
- Have you despaired of getting beyond the memories that haunt you?
- Do you feel alone while carrying invisible wounds from the past?
- Could you use a detailed map explaining step-by-step the process of transforming childhood family disasters into effective self-knowledge and integrated wellness?
This empowering self-help book synthesizes Dr. Lane Lasater's recovery journey and career as a clinical psychologist helping others to recover from family trauma. This book informs and guides you step by step on your journey so you can move forward beyond adversity on your terms and at your pace.
Charting your recovery from childhood trauma and painful childhood experiences can be overwhelming without accurate information, a definite plan, and informed guidance about how to move forward.
Who's this book for? Written for emerging and middle adults who recognize that despite their best efforts, they haven't been able to leave behind painful childhood events. This handbook assists you as you navigate the challenging path to health and wholeness with confidence and clarity.
Those of us who suffered childhood wounds find it hard to trust in the first place, and now we have to navigate a range of recovery approaches and pathways. Where do I start and what do I do next?
Recovery doesn't just happen, but millions of people just like you are transforming childhood pain and suffering into adult strength, wisdom, and fulfillment and breaking the chains of past trauma and tragedy.
Effective and lasting change begins with clearly understanding how your family got off track, how your family experiences affected you first as a child, then later as you struggle with adult relationships and challenges, while feeling unprepared and alone.
Lane helped many people with his original book on recovery titled Recovery from Compulsive Behavior, and through his grief and trauma recovery workshops attended people from around the world.
By the end of this comprehensive, step-by-step guide, you'll:
- Understand how you were wounded in your troubled family and how these childhood hurts can continue to dominate your adult moods, choices, and relationships.
- Develop your personal recovery plan through self-assessments, questionnaires, and insightful exercises to prioritize your recovery tasks and take on your life challenges one by one.
- Be able to choose among the range of recovery approaches to find helpers that empower you.
- Address unstable self-worth, persistent emotional distress, relationship challenges, PTSD, and (if necessary) addiction, and replace your childhood coping strategies with new self-affirming choices and self-care.
- Use your personal power to define and maintain boundaries and choices that provide to the wounded little boy or girl inside you the safety and nurturance he or she always needed and deserved.
