Brown speckled calf, raised bands with diamond shaped gilt floral compartments, red leather spine label lettered in gilt, outer edges dentelle, red speckled edges, xvi, 343pp; v, 271, [77], tile in red and black, Text in French, with 90 engraved plates, including [10] folding, from the library of Henry A. Sherwin (1842-1916). Sherwin was a co-founder of Sherwin- Williams paint company, typed book description in French pasted on front paste-down (volume one), on front paste-downs, mild toning to pages and end-papers, light hinge wear, a tiny chip on foot of hinge and spine (volume one), spine rubbed. Near Fine in custom Graphic slipcase, a mounted color plate of a falcon on front. This comprehensive guide to hunting and fishing contains exclusive illustrations that greatly expand on earlier writings of Francois Fortin (a monk of the order of Order of Grandmont), such as his Ruses innocentes (first published in 1688), among others. The Amsterdam edition contains a dictionary of hunting and fishing terms in the second volume, and was increased with 24 new plates (compared to earlier editions that contained only 66) 9 of which are devoted to falconry (nos. 28-36). In addition to revolutionizing the paint industry, Henry A. Sherwin's fishing collection remembered as one of the notable American private libraries devoted to angling and piscatorial literature.…
