Synopsis:

This story is different to most Wolves publications in that it tells the story of the Wolves trainer, Jack Davies. The book is a fascinating story of Jack’s journey through nearly sixty years of Wolves history. Try to imagine Wolverhampton Wanderers Football Club without Stan Cullis and Billy Wright. Well... had it not been for Jack Davies it is possible that neither of these two club legends would have played for Wolves. Jack’s story starts from him joining the club after serving his country in World War One. The book charts Wolves’ progress during Jack’s time at the club and provides a fascinating insight into the early years of Wolverhampton Wanderers. The book covers the 1921, 1939, 1949 and 1960 FA Cup finals, football during World War Two, the golden years of the fifties and right through to the late 1970’s. No previous publication about Wolverhampton Wanderers has accurately recorded the length of time that Jack served at Molineux. Likewise no one has commented on his tremendous influence on the fortunes of the club. He played a major part in the transformation of Wolves fortunes ‘from gloom to glory’. This publication contains 170 pages and numerous previously unpublished photographs. The book has stories about Jack Davies from many former Wolves legends, including Stan Cullis, Billy Wright, Mike Bailey, Derek Dougan, Geoff Palmer, Kenny Hibbitt and many more. “His love of the club was obvious for all to see, men like Jack Davies do not come along very often” - Bert Williams MBE, Wolves and England goalkeeper.
