Spine with gilt-ruled raised bands in six compartments, lettered direct in gilt in second, fifth, and at foot of spine. Compartments elaborately blind tooled with zig-zag borders and central floral spray medallions surrounded by rosettes. Boards blind tooled with multiple straight, zig-zag, and rope rules, with foliate gilt stamps to corners of inner panels. Gilt-ruled edges and inner dentelles. All edges gilt. Spines somewhat faded, minor scuffing to boards, occasional foxing. Old auction catalogue description attached to ffep. A resplendent late 18th century English binding in a delicate shade of blue which is prone to fading and seldom found as pristine as it is here. While the binding is unsigned, we have seen similar ones from the workshop of S. Ridge of Grantham, who was one of several binders utilized by the Thorolds of Syston Park.
