Track. Stalk. Shoot. – Taking the Kingsbridge Route
By Peter Redmond

What do you get when you mix a Canon 600D, a ghillie suit, a muddy estuary, and a bloke with dodgy knees doing 10,000 steps a day?
You get this book.

This isn’t a glossy safari guide or a love letter to thousand-pound lenses. It’s a real-life, boots-on-the-ground, tripod-in-the-mud account of how one man (armed with budget gear and relentless curiosity) rediscovered the world around him — one muddy footstep at a time.

Set in the wilds of South Devon, and more specifically around Kingsbridge, Collapit Creek, and the estuaries of Salcombe, this book is part wildlife guide, part walking diary, part gear breakdown — and part reminder that you don’t need a jungle to feel like an explorer.

What’s Inside?

📸 Real photography advice — Not from a studio, but from hedgerows, fields, and foggy footpaths.

🥾 Walking inspiration — Because wildlife doesn’t come to you. You go to it (preferably with waterproof boots and a flask of tea).

🦊 Wild encounters — From swans that photobomb your buzzard shoot, to hares you never saw coming, to cows that try to eat your lens.

🧥 Stealth and patience — Learn the art of not stepping on twigs. Or burping loudly at the wrong moment.

💡 Practical gear insights — All photographed using Canon 600Ds, a Canon 70D, and lenses you probably already own. This is proof you can get stunning shots without bankrupting yourself.

🧠 Mental health and movement — This journey started with 10,000 steps a day to keep diabetes in check — but became something far more healing. This is photography as therapy with a view.

Who’s This Book For?

Beginners who want real talk, not jargon

Photographers on a budget (who still want beautiful images)

Nature lovers who live in towns or small villages

People who like learning the hard way — and laughing at it later

Anyone who’s ever lost a boot in the mud chasing a bird

Or who just loves the idea of reconnecting with nature without needing to fly to Africa

Why You'll Love It

This isn’t a “how to become the next BBC wildlife cameraman” manual.
This is the bloke-next-door guide to photographing your local patch of land, whether that’s a wood, an estuary, or a field behind your house.

It’s about doing the job, loving the moment, and capturing the ordinary in a way that makes it extraordinary.

And hey — if you come home wet, muddy, and slightly confused about what you actually shot, that just means you’re doing it right.

Reader Challenge Included:

Take your camera, walk 10,000 steps, and see what you find. This book invites you not just to read, but to act. To shoot. To stalk (the wildlife, not the neighbours). To track the beauty in your own backyard.

Because the best photo you’ll ever take… might be right outside your door.

Warning: May cause an overwhelming urge to go walking, stop in hedgerows, talk to cows, or crawl through wet grass for the perfect shot.
