Good stories never lose their power. Aesop, the ancient Greek storyteller, was the first to write this charming tale about a country mouse who samples the life of her city cousin with unfortunate results. And now, this classic fable gets a Laughing Elephant makeover - complete with our signature vintage illustrations and easy-to-read text. It's the perfect storytime book, with a moral at the end. Illustrator Ethel Hays has created beautifully dressed mouse ladies where even the country mouse's Sunday best is outshone by the city mouse's complex and fashionable wardrobe. Her images are full of vibrancy and color, and the text is simple and clear. Together, the words and text bring this tale of adventure and belonging to vivid life. This fable is perfect for beginner readers or for storytime with small children. It remains as charming and as pertinent today as it was in Aesop's time. Remember: there's no place like home.
