About the book >.>.> Michael Raedecker's Tour by Reinhard Spieler presents an exploration of the artist's unique position within contemporary painting discourse. Raedecker describes his approach succinctly: Art is what art should never be. This perspective captures the essence of his work, which, despite being rooted in figuration and employing recognizable motifs, eschews realism and traditional narratives. Instead, Raedecker's paintings employ minimalist artistic techniques reminiscent of colour field painting, with each canvas beginning from a uniform painted ground that establishes an atmospheric tone. The introduction of the motif, often formed through contour drawing, develops a melodic quality while remaining faithful to the foundational ambiance of the piece. In Raedecker's artistic realm, materials take precedence over realistic settings. His subjects?ranging from architectural views and chandeliers to plants and pieces of laundry?are distanced from any realistic context, existing solely within the domain of colour and the art of picture-making. Importantly, he utilises motifs not for storytelling but as instruments to evoke specific atmospheres and emotional responses. His choice of motifs is limited, often focusing on architectural elements, groupings of objects akin to still lifes, and various fabrics displayed in intricate arrangements.A particularly noteworthy aspect of Raedecker's oeuvre is the integration of textile structures into his painting. He intertwines coloured wool threads within the canvas, creating a three-dimensional effect that adds depth and vibrancy. These threads enhance the painted surface with light and colour, yielding a distinct reality capable of casting shadows, thereby expanding the possibilities of painting into new material dimensions. Overall, Raedecker's work transcends traditional boundaries, inviting viewers to reconsider the very nature of painting itself.…

Michael Raedecker occupies his own unique position within the field of contemporary painting: essentially dedicated to figuration, he replaces the concrete surroundings of his motifs with fields of color. His houses, plants, and laundry pieces can be understood as critical analyses of painting and pictorial composition and are often characterized by a mystical atmosphere. Typical of Raedecker’s works is the combination of paint and thread. The contours of his motifs are developed as three-dimensional drawings with the aid of colored woolen threads embroidered into the canvas. This comprehensive exhibition catalog features the artist’s works from Wilhelm-Hack-Museum in Ludwigshafen and the Sprengel Museum in Hannover.
