8vo. 172p., folding frontis map, index, bound in half blackfabrikoid, marbled boards, titles stamped in silver, produced on fragilepaper nonetheless his copy is in fine condition. (Qc) T.P.L. 226. Anexcerpt from the Public Archives Report for 1906, printed from a ms. "inthe Archives in Paris". Beginning Feb 5, 1752, La Roque, a King'ssurveyor, on instructions from the Governor, Comte de Raymond, made "ageneral census of the settlers on the island, name by name, . thenumbers of [acres] each has of improved land, the number of their cattle,etc. etc. He was instructed also to examine . the most precipitousplace in the island; those where troops could be most easily landed; howmany ships each harbour could accommodate. (TPL). le-Royale was aFrench colony in North America that existed from 1713 to 1763, consistingof two islands, le Royale and le Saint-Jean. Its territory is known nowas Cape Breton Island and Prince Edward Island.
