Synopsis:

This publication celebrates for the first time the important creative collaboration between the artist Henri Toulouse-Lautrec (1864–1901) and his muse, the dancer Jane Avril (1868–1943). Avril was one of the stars of Moulin Rouge in the 1890s, and was nicknamed ‘La M�linite’ after a form of explosive. She was known for her alluring style and exotic persona, and her fame was assured by a series of dazzlingly inventive posters designed by Lautrec.

About the Author: Nancy Ireson is a freelance writer and doctoral research student at the Courtauld Institute of Art in London. She has also published work on Rousseau. Dr. Anna Gruetzner Robins teaches undergraduate courses on nineteenth and twentieth century art, landscape art, the female body and the art market at the University of Reading. She has published several books and has curated several major exhibitions in London.
