Paperback. Puccini's Tosca, retold as a novel. Rome, June 1800: a fervent, jealous opera singer; the painter she loves, who has hidden a fugitive in his chapel; and Baron Scarpia, the chief of police, who will trade the painter's life for a single night with her. Across one afternoon, one evening, and the dawn that follows - a church, a lamplit interrogation, a forged safe-conduct, and a leap from the parapet of the Castel Sant'Angelo - Tosca: An Overture gives the fastest and cruelest of melodramas the inwardness only a novel can hold. Part of the Overture Series - operas told as novels, written to be read in the weeks before you go, or while the music plays. Paced to Karajan's 1979 recording. This item is printed on demand. Shipping may be from multiple locations in the US or from the UK, depending on stock availability.
