Neuware -The British architect Tony Fretton has long been renowned for a minimalist language with its own distinctive vocabulary. The two volumes of this definitive monograph cover four decades of work by Tony Fretton Architects. The British architect Tony Fretton has long been renowned for a refined, minimalist language with its own distinctive vocabulary. His award-winning projects combine innovation with a deep understanding of place, culture and community. The practice first gained international recognition with the Lisson Gallery (1990) as well as the Red House in London (2001). Other well-known works include Two Apartments in Groningen (2001), the Fuglsang Art Museum in Lolland (2008), Anish Kapoor’s house in London (2008) or the British Embassy in Warsaw (2009). The two volumes of this definitive monograph cover four decades of work by Tony Fretton Architects. The first volume, Buildings, comprises a text by Christoph Grafe while in the second volume, Projects, essays by Benjamin Machin, Mark Pimlott and Irina Davidovici contextualise the oeuvre. The elegant and restrained graphic design of the publication reflects Fretton’s rational, unembellished style. The British architect Tony Fretton has long been renowned as a pioneer of London's architectural scene, winning many commendations and prizes for his buildings. Highlights include the Lisson Gallery in London, for which he attracted initial attention in 1990, as well as the Red House in London (2001) and the Danish Fuglsang Art Museum (2008).
The three parts of this comprehensive and conclusive monograph address all aspects of his creative oeuvre: including his buildings, sketches, project ideas and his non-architectural photographic work. The reserved design of this overall presentation reflects his own rational, unembellished work, which is inspired by each respective location.
