Powerful image depicting Napoleon's officers in mourning at the imposing stone cenotaph on the island of St Helena, his military uniform and bicorne displayed on top, and his crown of laurel leaves lying on the ground in front. A large weeping willow overhangs the monument; a ship at sea visible in the distance. 12 1/2 x 10". Faint damp stains to lower margin, faint spot on one word in title not affecting legibility, closed tear upper left margin not intruding into image.
