Undated, circa 1944. Likely first edition, very rare book. You can see the covers in the photos. There is rub-through at all four corners and at both spine ends, particularly the top one (see photo). There is a little bit of scuffing on the top edges, a fair amount on the rear middle edge, and a good deal of it on the bottom edges. There is also a good deal scuffing on the front edge of the spine, a little bit on the rear side as well. The covers are very clean. The spine looks pretty straight. The pages are solidly bound, the covers as well. The pages are in very good shape. They are exceptionally clean. In fact I didn't see any soiling on any of them. They didn't see any creasing. There aren't any markings in the book. No attachments of any kind (NOT ex-library) and nobody has written their name or anything else anywhere. If The highlight of the book is the 12 tipped-in color plates by Joep Nicols. They are all in excellent condition. There are also large number of monochrome drawings. They are also in excellent condition. Both inside covers are mapped. From the last page (About The Artist) : 'Commissioned by the Imperial Agricultural Corporation, he studied the tobacco industry in New England and painted on the spot a collection of tempera paintings, from which the twelve color plates included in this volume were chosen. The monochrome drawings have been composed after numerous sketches and studies.' The plates depict tobacco plantations in the Connecticut River Valley and the Clark Farm at Windsor, Connecticut also the mill at Granby, Connecticut; a dairy farm in Bloomfield, Connecticut and migratory labor camp on Mantitonk Lake.
