Item description from seller

The complete ninth volume of Holbrook Jackson"s literary quarterly, including his early review of James Joyce"s Ulysses. In a contemporary cloth binding, bound by Burman, Cooper & Co. The complete ninth volume, comprising the four quarterly numbers published in March, June, September and December 1922. With four frontispieces and numerous in-text illustrations. Collated, complete. A literary and cultural periodical presenting contemporary poetry, criticism, essays, reviews and commentary on art, theatre and publishing.Contributors include Richard Aldington, Edmund Blunden, Clifford Bax, W. H. Davies, Cecil Roberts and R. L. Megroz, among others. The June number contains Holbrook Jackson"s early assessment of James Joyce"s Ulysses, "Ulysses a la Joyce"; an interesting insight into the contemporary reception of Joyce. Holbrook Jackson (1874-1948) was an English journalist, literary historian, editor and noted bibliophile. Having edited and later purchased T. P."s Weekly, he recast it as To-Day, which appeared between 1917 and 1923; his later works include The Eighteen Nineties and The Anatomy of Bibliomania. A lively periodical offering insight into the early 1920s literary climate. In a contemporary cloth binding.Externally, generally smart. Slight discolouration to spine and extremities. The odd mark to boards with slight rubbing. Remnants of label to lower corner of rear board. Rubbing to spine label. Slight rubbing and bumping to extremities. Binder's ticket to front paste down. Internally, firmly bound. Pages bright and clean with one or two spots to fore edge. Very Good.
