Helping children understand what feelings are and how to recognize their emotions is essential for their emotional development.
Tipdip begins in a state of complete emotional overwhelm, physically manifesting their fear and unable to move forward. The turning point comes when they find the courage to name their emotion and share it with someone who notices their distress. Through this vulnerability, Tipdip gradually reclaims their confidence, learning that acknowledging feelings is the first step toward managing them. By the end, they understand that fear, while powerful, is temporary, and they can walk forward despite it.
Tipdip is naturally sensitive and imaginative, with a tendency to feel emotions very intensely. They're curious about the world but can become easily overwhelmed when faced with uncertainty. Tipdip has a gentle, thoughtful nature and notices details others might miss. Despite their cautious approach to new situations, they possess an underlying determination that surfaces when they finally confront their fears.
Tipdip struggles with the conflict between their desire to explore and experience life fully versus their overwhelming fear responses that make them want to hide away. They question whether acknowledging fear makes them weak or if ignoring it makes things worse. Tipdip also battles with wanting comfort from others while being afraid of appearing vulnerable.
Tipdip possesses remarkable self-awareness about their physical and emotional states. They have the courage to admit when they're scared, which takes significant bravery. Tipdip is resilient, able to find their inner strength even after being completely overwhelmed. They're also empathetic, which helps them connect with others who might understand their feelings.
Nanda Roep is a Dutch children's author and publisher, best known as the creator of the Plaza Patatta series and Pompom & The Circle of Feelings. She writes stories that encourage children to discover the joy of reading through humour, adventure, and imagination. Alongside writing, she develops educational and creative projects that inspire young readers and families. Her books are published in both Dutch and English. Nanda lives and works in Apeldoorn, the Netherlands.
