I’m hoping that being honest with you may just save my life. And perhaps yours…A Tiny Feeling of Fear is a novel which has allowed author M. Jonathan Lee to speak candidly about mental health issues and try to get people to realise that mental health is not some dirty secret to keep to ourselves. One out of four people will suffer from some kind of mental health issue each year. Twenty five percent of all people. For Jonathan, the book has brought back a lot of memories and thoughts crushed away in the corners of his mind to fore. Jonathan stated “Things that I didn’t want to deal with or I had blanked out have now reappeared like a distant friend. It’s as if ATFOF has climbed to the top of a mountain with a 1,000 coloured balloons and invited my deepest thoughts to join it.” Jonathan is incredibly proud of this novel, and has helped him move forwards, and feels hopeful that it will help somebody else say the words, “Y’know I’ve not been feeling myself recently. I’ve been having X,Y, Z thoughts.” There needs to be more understanding, to help and destigmatise the illness. Because that is all it is. An illness.A number of GP’s and other medical professionals have read the novel and have said that the book has helped them to get a greater sense of understanding of their patients and a better insight into mental illness from the sufferers perspective. Other novels by M. Jonathan Lee include the first and second parts of the ‘The’ trilogy ‘The Page’ and ‘The Radio’, dark family mystery ‘Broken Branches’ and ‘Drift Stumble Fall’.The Radio was nationally shortlisted for the Novel Prize in 2012.Jonathan’s writing has always been inspired by a number of novels, including Alex Garland's The Beach, and his writing is comparable to Mark Haddon, Nick Hornby and Joseph Connolly.Jonathan’s novels are published with the Northern Publishing House, Hideaway Fall. All novels published through Hideaway Fall are creative fiction that grab the attention of the reader and have unexpected twists in the plot.
