Item description from seller

2012 signed and inscribed first edition, Xlibris Corp., 6 x 9 inches tall paperbound, illustrated with black-and-white photographs, 537 pp. Very slight rubbing to covers. Nicely signed and inscribed by the author on the half title page. Otherwise, a very good copy - clean, bright and unmarked. ~SP36~ [2.0P] In his memoir, spanning five generations, Irwin William Schenker takes his first breath in the waning days of 1929. In the course of the eight decades following that earth-shattering event, the United States was involved in no less than seven wars; suffered through the great depression; saw the advent of the nuclear age; the horrors of the holocaust; the assassination of a president; the downfall of the Soviet Union; the landing of a man on the moon and a robotic rover onto the surface of the planet Mars. The world also stood witness to the to the momentous advances of science as antibiotics were introduced into the treatment of disease, along with countless other therapeutic and diagnostic tools which extended the life expectancy of citizens throughout the world. The automobile and the airplane narrowed the distance between people and nations. The telephone, the cell phone and of course the computer reigned as we entered the digital age. Through it all a precocious, determined, often rebellious young Irwin emerged from the streets of the South Bronx, to ultimately find himself safely and successfully ensconced into the relative luxury of an eastern Long Island community. Nurtured by his immigrant parents from early childhood with unconditional love, they instilled in him a lust for education, ambition and an instinct for success. Both as a graduate student and in his professional career as a hospital administrator, he demonstrated those qualities as he pursued his vision of happiness and life's fulfillment. Now, a retired widower, he has settled in Southern California to bask in the yearround sun and cool breezes. However, his overriding passion has always been family. The memory of his late wife, his four children, his ten grandchildren and his new companion of five years continue to occupy center stage in what has become The Time of His Life.
