Print on Demand. This book explores the complex dynamics of tokamak states with flow, a crucial aspect of understanding and simulating plasma behavior in nuclear fusion research. The author delves into the intricate interplay of various forces within these systems, including viscosity, electrical conductivity, and the Hall effect. The book's approach involves a systematic expansion based on the relative magnitude of different transport coefficients, allowing for a clearer understanding of the underlying physics. This analysis, rooted in the principles of single-fluid magnetohydrodynamics, provides a framework for simulating long-term tokamak behavior. The author highlights the significance of large toroidal flow and its influence on diffusion, a topic of significant interest in the field of fusion research. Through a series of mathematical derivations, the book explores the impact of these forces on the evolution of plasma profiles over time. The text further emphasizes the importance of incorporating a general viscous tensor in the model, accounting for the unique characteristics of plasma behavior in strong magnetic fields. By combining a rigorous mathematical approach with a clear focus on experimental relevance, the book offers valuable insights into the complex dynamics of tokamak states with flow, paving the way for further advancements in the pursuit of controlled nuclear fusion. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book.…

As tokamak experiments become larger, cleaner and hotter, realistic simulation of particle and energy transport is becoming essential. Such a model is developed here in the context of single-fluid theory in conjunction with numerical techniques suitable for representing neoclassical tokamak transport. The equations of dissipative magneto~hydrodynamics with axisymmetry imposed and with source terms are employed. Tensor viscous effects are included in the equations of momentum and energy conservation, anisotropic heat flow and electrical conductivity in the energy equation, and anisotropic electrical conductivity and Hall effect in Ohm's law. The general Braginskii forms, Ref of the viscous stress tensor, anisotropic heat flow vector. And anisotropic conductivity tensor are used. Neutralnbeamflheated experiments have shown large toroidal plasma flow comparable with the ion sound speed but no significant induced poloidal flow; this damping of the poloidal flow ~h even in the case of perpendicular injection -a is due to enhanced transport. Our model aims to study the effect of large toroidal flow on transport due to viscosity, which tends to couple this large flow to poloidal flow. This inclusion of flow, together with the Hall term makes our model substantially different from other, simpler neoclassical models.
