Maurice Baker has made mistakes. Crucial mistakes that cost him his freedom and his daughter. But after paying his debt to society a clean slate in Boston is what he needs. To sever all ties with his gang the Black Knights and Rory Murphy has given him that chance when he hires him as his Head of Kitchen. This time around he’s willing to let old habits die in order to see his daughter again. However, a year later he finds himself in an impossible situation to protect the two most important women in his life, Candice Wilson and his seventeen-year-old daughter, Symia. He finds himself making a decision he swore he never would when he asks for Rory Murphy’s help. Falling back into old habits could be his downfall.

Candice Wilson has been trying to get quiet and grumpy Maurice Baker to notice her from the moment she saw him come behind the kitchen door ready to help defend everyone in Sugar, No Cream from the Cambridge Street Crew, with no such luck. Things turn in her favor when he finally decides to make a move. Their budding relationship is going better than ever until Maurice's daughter shows up on his front doorstep. A daughter he failed to mention to her. But none of that matters when they are both taken by what's left of the Cambridge Street Crew. Candice has no choice but to try to protect Symia the best she can and hope that Maurice can get to them in time.
