Add to basketNo publisher, place or date. Presumed San Francisco, circa 1969/70. Approximately 1 ¼ inches in diameter. Stickpin style back. A pinback raising awareness of the plight of Timothy Peebles, a freshman student at San Francisco State in 1969. On March 5, 1969, as part of ongoing student protests against the SF State's administration and policies, Peebles and William Pulliam planned to set off a bomb in the Creative Arts Center. The bomb went off accidentally, causing serious injury to Peebles' face and hands (including the loss of several fingers). Both men were eventually tried and sentenced for their act. The student strikes at SF State had been ongoing, with students protesting the systemic racism at the university, and seeking to establish Black studies programs, among other initiatives. The protests turned to strikes, and the students faced violent reprisals from the police. VERY GOOD condition. Minor toning and rubbing to the face, with minor tarnishing to the reverse.
