Three early items from the Chicago Urban Studies program, an immersive program developed in 1969 by John Kretzmann and Walt Reiner for the Associated Colleges of the Midwest. The program included course work, but also work assignments (internships) and independent study projects that required students to work at local non-profits and to explore aspects of urban living in Chicago. Included is an oblong pamphlet directed at black students who have participated in the program "to communicate.the intensity of the experiences that the program provides." It includes photographs and text and quotes from staff and student members. Also included is a thick, stapled packet that includes the Statement of Goals and Methods, a list of work assignments available for 1972-73, and an appendix that includes core courses, reading list, and seminars (23 mimeographed pages). Lastly, is a stapled resource packet for students that includes a map of apartment locations, precepts, the student roster for the Spring, 1973 semester, a list of staff, the typical week schedule, course descriptions, information on the work assignment and independent study project, the core courses and a schedule for the first two weeks (side-stapled sheets, 24 p.).
