Item description from seller

Publication: Boston, Massachusetts, The NESFA Press, 1973 Formatting: 8vo, pp. 96. Condition Report: Very Good. The light blue cloth boards remain remarkably clean with no discernible shelf wear, maintaining excellent binding integrity, while the gilt lettering on the spine is unoxidised and notably bright. Internally, the text block is pleasingly crisp, displaying only faint page edge toning and minor offsetting to the endpapers, where a neat previous owner's label is affixed to the front paste-down. The dust jacket exhibits some general age-toning and mild surface soiling to the pale panels, accompanied by minor rubbing and light wear to the spine extremities, but remaining entirely whole and well-preserved. Catalogue Note: This is a limited first edition of 500 numbered copies, of which this is copy number 380, specially produced as a Boskone Book for the tenth Boskone convention. The volume is notably signed by the author in black ink on the title page. The front paste-down bears the neat ownership label of Adrian and Judith Mellor of Birmingham, providing a factual trace of provenance. As a limited-run convention publication, signed copies retaining their original dust jackets in such well-preserved condition are scarce on the open market. Originally produced for the 1973 Boskone convention, Three Faces of Science Fiction collects three insightful essays by the esteemed editor and writer Robert A. W. Lowndes. Exploring the multifaceted nature of the genre, Lowndes examines science fiction through the distinct lenses of 'Instruction,' 'Propaganda,' and 'Delight,' offering a nuanced critical perspective on its evolution and underlying purpose. This concise yet thoughtful volume serves as a valuable resource for both scholars and enthusiasts seeking to understand the historical context and literary mechanics of science fiction.…
